Chris Geary Photography bio picture

Hello. I'm Chris, a thirty-something documentary wedding photographer based near Reading, Berkshire.

My passion is wedding photography. I love capturing the preparations, the anticipation, the sheer emotion of the ceremony, the first kiss, the laughter of the speeches and the beautiful first dance.

I've loved photography since I was a child. Back then I had a Kodak Retinette IB which I still have although it stopped working years ago. I bought my first film SLR back in 2001 and today I use Nikon D700 bodies with Nikkor 24-70/f2.8, 50/f1.4, 85/f1.4 and 70-200/f2.8 professional lenses. I also love travel photography and I've had the privilege to see some amazing parts of the world... Australia, Thailand, India and Africa to name a few.

I'm a movie and music lover, both of which seem to go hand in hand with a nice glass of wine. I love good food, my favourite of which has to be either Thai or Mexican.

Ten things...  1) I love walks in the country. 2) Chocolate is A Good Thing (TM). 3) Music needs to be heard and ideally felt. 4) I'm a little OCD at times. 5) Jack Bauer never goes to the toilet or charges his mobile. 6) David Palmer needs to be president for real. 7) Tom Yam Goong is amazing, if I had to choose only one thing to eat from now on, that would be it. 8) BT, Hybrid, Elbow, Angus and Julia Stone - all music gods. 9) I can't stand middle lane hoggers. 10) Life is short, embrace it, live it, and do things.

Vicki and Richard, Old Thorns Manor Hotel

My wedding season for 2011 has now officially kicked off! I was a little nervous because the weather forecast was looking thundery for the afternoon, just in time for the reception. Thankfully, the weather gods intervened and Vicki and Richard had a beautiful rain-free spring day. Vicki and her bridesmaids prepped at home in Bordon followed by the ceremony and reception at the Old Thorns Manor Hotel. Vicki arrived in a beautiful old Bentley S3 with her proud father beside her. Rich was waiting nervously in the ceremony room. Vicki and her father came down the aisle filling the room with electricity. The ceremony went perfectly… in fact so well that when the registrar was about to take Rich through the declaration, he began speaking the words ahead of time. She had left a slight pause before beginning the words for him to repeat, just long enough to make you think you should say something, and he did. Actually he was doing rather well before he realised he didn’t quite know all the words! Rich, Vicki and indeed the whole room fell about with laughter!

It was a lovely relaxed day, filled with love, laughter and happiness. I didn’t have to work so hard during the reception because I had second shooters with me. A young girl and boy sharing a Canon 350D if I wasn’t mistaken. 4 years old or so, the girl and boy not the camera which was almost as tall as they were, when hanging from their necks. I may have been papped once or twice! Good work team :)

A live band and a sunset rounded off a perfect day. Congratulations Vicki and Rich, enjoy your honeymoon and if you have the interwebs where you are, here are some sneaky peeks for you :)
