Chris Geary Photography bio picture

Hello. I'm Chris, a documentary wedding photographer based in Basingstoke, Hampshire. I'm in my mid thirties and happily married to my beautiful wife, Keily.

My passion is wedding photography. I love capturing the preparations, the anticipation, the sheer emotion of the ceremony, the first kiss, the laughter of the speeches and the beautiful first dance.

I've loved photography since I was a child. Back then I had a Kodak Retinette IB which I still have although it stopped working years ago. I bought my first film SLR back in 2001 and today I use Nikon D700 bodies with Nikkor 24-70/f2.8, 50/f1.4 and 70-200/f2.8 professional lenses. I also love travel photography and I've had the privilege to see some amazing parts of the world... Australia, Thailand, India and Africa to name a few.

I'm a movie and music lover, both of which seem to go hand in hand with a nice glass of wine. I love good food, my favourite of which has to be either Thai or Mexican. Bands that rock: Elbow, Coldplay and Snow Patrol.

Ten things...  1) I love walks in the country. 2) Chocolate is A Good Thing (TM). 3) Music needs to be heard and ideally felt. 4) I'm a little OCD at times. 5) Jack Bauer never goes to the toilet or charges his mobile. 6) David Palmer needs to be president for real. 7) Tom Yam Goong is amazing, if I had to choose only one thing to eat from now on, that would be it. 8) BT is my favourite musician. 9) I can't stand middle lane hoggers. 10) Life is short, embrace it, live it, and do things.

Zoë and James, Henley Golf & Country Club

I drove up to Birmingham on Thursday evening, the night before Zoë and James’ Henley wedding. I have known them both for many years so it was a real joy for me to be able to shoot their wedding day. It rained all the way up and the forecast for Friday wasn’t looking much better....

Nicola and Mark – The Tithe Barn, Petersfield

This weekend I was offered the opportunity to shoot alongside the amazingly talented Rob Burress aka ShootingHip at the beautiful Hampshire wedding of Nicola and Mark. Needless to say I jumped at the chance. We started the day with the bridal party to capture the pre-wedding preparation and excitement. The house overlooked Portsmouth Cathedral, making...

Shona and Ed – Esher, Surrey

thumbnail

A tin shack isn’t a typical church you’d normally find in England but this cosy church in Surrey was the venue for the beautiful wedding of Shona and Ed. Shona is originally from New Zealand so they chose it because it is reminiscent of the churches found there. I first went over to Shona’s house...

Shona & Ed’s Pre-wedding Shoot

thumbnail

I went to meet Shona and Ed for my first pre-wedding shoot of 2010 today. It was a cold, crisp winter’s day in Surrey at just 3c, cold enough that the lake by the church was partially frozen. Shona and Ed are great fun, easy to work with and were very relaxed in front of...
