Chris Geary Photography bio picture

Hello. I'm Chris, a thirty-something documentary wedding photographer based near Reading, Berkshire.

My passion is wedding photography. I love capturing the preparations, the anticipation, the sheer emotion of the ceremony, the first kiss, the laughter of the speeches and the beautiful first dance.

I've loved photography since I was a child. Back then I had a Kodak Retinette IB which I still have although it stopped working years ago. I bought my first film SLR back in 2001 and today I use Nikon D700 bodies with Nikkor 24-70/f2.8, 50/f1.4, 85/f1.4 and 70-200/f2.8 professional lenses. I also love travel photography and I've had the privilege to see some amazing parts of the world... Australia, Thailand, India and Africa to name a few.

I'm a movie and music lover, both of which seem to go hand in hand with a nice glass of wine. I love good food, my favourite of which has to be either Thai or Mexican.

Ten things...  1) I love walks in the country. 2) Chocolate is A Good Thing (TM). 3) Music needs to be heard and ideally felt. 4) I'm a little OCD at times. 5) Jack Bauer never goes to the toilet or charges his mobile. 6) David Palmer needs to be president for real. 7) Tom Yam Goong is amazing, if I had to choose only one thing to eat from now on, that would be it. 8) BT, Hybrid, Elbow, Angus and Julia Stone - all music gods. 9) I can't stand middle lane hoggers. 10) Life is short, embrace it, live it, and do things.

Our Honeymoon

Mrs. G and I spent our honeymoon fortnight in Italy: a week in Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast and the final week in Taormina, Sicily. May is the perfect time of year to be in southern Italy. The weather is mostly sunny but the temperatures are not too hot yet, perfect for walking around Pompeii, the lesser known but arguably better preserved Herculaneum, Sorrento, Amalfi and the beautiful Positano. We spent our first week mostly sightseeing but we also spent a few lazy days by the pool. The hotel was right in the centre of Sorrento with easy access to the town and to the many fine restaurants it has to offer. Imperial Hotel Tramontano: I highly recommend it and it easily exceeds the 4 stars it currently has.

One evening something quite wonderful happened. We wandered around looking for a restaurant that took our fancy, ending up in one of the maze of side streets. We’d just paid and were about to leave when we heard someone say “that’s Chris Geary”. We looked up and saw our friend Jill who used to work at Clearswift. Keily was covering Jill during a long period of absence on a temporary basis and it was for this reason that Keily and I met. How incredible that in all the places in all the world, we would meet Jill again after several years at this small restaurant in a maze of side streets in Sorrento on our honeymoon!

Next we moved on to Taormina in Sicily for a much more relaxing week of laying on the beach reading books. We visited the Greek theatre but that was about as much sight seeing as we did. Breakfast, beach, lunch, beach, dinner, sleep. Food and wine. Heaven!
