The Photography Parlour Shootout

I met up with a group of photographers in Bristol, down by the floating harbour. The event was superbly organised and arranged by the fabulous Rosie Parsons of the Photography Parlour. We spent the day shooting some beautiful models, chatting, exchanging ideas with each other and generally being creative. I met some amazingly talented people. Big thanks to the make up artists, the other photographers, Rosie and of course, the models for making the day easy going, fun and an absolute triumph!

Woodland Adventure 2

Just got back from a woodland walk with two lovely families, the Salter and Crome families. I had the pleasure of photographing the Salters last autumn in ‘Woodland Adventure’. The weather was perfect and the bluebells were out in their masses. It was beautiful. The girls and boys all had great fun running around the woods and posing for the camera!

No pressure… a photoshoot for a photographer! And a mighty fine one too! Mark’s travel photography is absolutely stunning and should be, in my opinion, in books like Lonely Planet etc. This shoot was my toughest challenge yet as Mark’s daughter is just 8 weeks old. She is fascinated by lights so my softbox and HiLite background had her in a state of awe. This was a little inconvenient as we tried every trick in the book to make her smile and laugh but she wasn’t having it. Mmmm lights.

Aka Madison’s photoshoot! My favourite subject is back, although strangely somewhat less interested in being photographed today. I had to question if this was the real Madison before me but she promptly threw some plastic balls at me and I knew it was her! Despite her apparent semi-reluctance, I think she was more than happy to pose and we got some great shots. I suspect this was somewhat helped by the presence of the TV screen opposite the shooting area so she could check herself out as I took pictures. Vanity is alive and well :D

Second shoot of the weekend was with my good friends The Hayes’ on Sunday. I brought a selection of coloured plastic balls for amusement and the kids quickly distributed them around the house with consummate ease! I had great fun with the youngsters who are certainly not at all shy and one who shall remain nameless seems to think everyone has a pie on their face! This was the source of much laughter and big smiles! Here are the best from the afternoon…

A change of plan this weekend saw us in Birmingham with my sister and her gorgeous son for an impromptu photo shoot. Her brother-in-law’s family was also able to rearrange a few things and we had a great afternoon with the kids, some balloons and lots of coloured plastic balls! This was my first proper shoot with the Lastolite HiLite background and Lencarta studio lights. At first the kids weren’t quite sure what to make of the big softbox and umbrella reflector and the three flash heads quitely whirring in the background but a few balloons soon got them in the mood for some fun. Even the adults got involved!

Woodland Adventure

I went out with the Salter and Hayes families yesterday for a walk in the woods. We were so lucky with the weather; unseaonably mild, hazy sunshine and no rain! A stark contrast to today! The autumnal colours are perfect right now and the children were running around in the leaves, splashing in the muddy pools and I photographed all the action…

Harriet Hayes’ Christening

It was a crisp and fresh October afternoon for the Christening of Harriet Hayes. The church was warm and welcoming and the service very enjoyable. Unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to take any shots during the service which was a shame. The moment when the Godparents surrounded the font on one side, with candles in hand in the dim light of the Church, whilst Harriet was baptised, was absolutely gorgeous. Harriet was very quiet during the ceremony, surprisingly quiet I thought. I glanced over and, yes, she was sleeping! Here are the best shots from the afternoon…

Trampoline fun

Another fine late summer afternoon and we had a BBQ with friends and, as it turned out, some trampoline fun too! This really put the D700 auto focus through its paces and I must say it was mighty impressive. The kids were loving the trampoline and also having their photographs taken and I was loving capturing those moments. Here are some of the best from the afternoon…
